CDMA Core Network Planning

Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to give the participants understanding of steps of 3G CDMA Radio Network Planning, Radio Network [BTS/Node B, RNC, Interfaces] Dimensioning, Coverage and Capacity Calculations.

  • Introduction : Signalling and traffic interfaces in a split architecture core network
  • Overview of the ATM, IP/MPLS and SDH principles : ATM, , IP/MPLS, SDH principles
  • The role of ATM, IP and SDH in the CDMA network : The role of ATM, IP and SDH in the CDMA network and its impact to core network planning
  • The signalling networks inside the core networks : SIP, Megaco (H.248), BiCC, Sigtran, Signalling QoS, MPLS, Signalling in the CS domain, IMS Description
  • Core network planning processes : Network planning processes introduction, Input data collection and evaluation, Traffic models for circuit switched and packet switched services, Overhead data calculation using standard assumptions, Calculating traffic and signalling volumes from input data, Calculating processorload from resulted traffic and signalling volumes, Load sharing and redundancy criteria in the core network
  • Capacity needs on the transmission network: Input data, Number of Subscribers, Average call lengths, Call mix, Total CS traffic (Erlangs), Total PS traffic, Transmission capacity calculation
  • Combined GSM/CDMA mobile backhaul networkEvaluating performance and evolving the design of the core network & Future development of the core network (3GPP release 6 and above)
